IS THIS THE NEW "PATRIOTISM"?

These days, I'm hearing more and more people wishing that the President will fail, and politicians voting against what's best for their country just to remain loyal to their party, country be damned. Yet, they all claim to be "patriots". Is this the new "patriotism"? Can you still claim to be a patriot if you vote to enact policies that aren't good for the country just for the sake of remaining loyal to your party? Also, if you're too cowardly to fight for your country, can you still claim to be a patriot?

Gone are the Minutemen of the 1700's, now it's just of bunch of cowardly right wing nut jobs and an ex Vice President who ducked out of Vietnam because he had "better things to do", but he wasted no time sending others to war. Yankee Doodle fucking Dandy indeed! Hell, forget war, most of these "patriots" never even served in the military to help protect "their country". Right wing talking head Neal Boortz claimed that he had flat feet when he went for his physical, and therefore; wasn't allowed in. That turned out to be a lie. Republican pimp/god Rush Limbaugh dodged service, and Sean Hannity, well let's face it, Sean's not the most masculine guy in the world.

The other thing that I find interesting is: there are more people on the "traitorous" left that have served in the military than there are on the "patriotic" right. It begs the question: Is cowardice and wishing doom on your President the new face of patriotism?

What next?

I read an editorial about the same theme last week here in my country.

The conclusion was that right wing patriotism is their strategy to make Obama seem to fail in the eyes of many, so they can get in the White House again as soon as possible.

Well, it sure shows me how happy the usa should be that they didn't win the elections.

It's a sad state of affairs. I'm just waiting on the episode of Gangland that covers the political parties. The way they put their party before everything else...must be blood in, blood out.

Patriotism has been misdirected in the battle between left and right. The left and right are a false dichotomy. Sure...they talk good (oppostional) games, but each side has been selling out the American public and blaming it on the other side.

Many Republicans realized this with Bush and the Democrats are learning hard lessons with Obama.

As a non-party patriot, I encourage accountability, responsibility, logic and integrity. I pursue truth beyond party lines and encourage all I see to do the same. Otherwise, we are a country divided and easily conquerable.

We are losing our rights because the left and the right are focused on blame, not resolution.

I'm not a big Obama fan.

That said, he's our president. I will back him up whilst he's getting beaten up.

It would be a terrible, awful shame if the first black president went down in smoke.

But please remember, the Left wasn't exactly behind Bush, either.
